The murder of Rhys Milford Jones who was Born 27th September 1995, occurred on 22 August 2007 in
Liverpool, England, when he was shot, believed at the time to be in his neck.

Rhys was the son of Stephen and Melanie Jones and younger Brother of Owen, who was born in 1990.

Rhys, who would have turned 12 a month after his death, had just left Broad Square Primary School on
the Norris Green housing estate, and was due to start secondary school at Fazakerley High School in
September 2007.

Rhys Jones was known to be a boy who was eager to learn everything and anything.
His headteacher and neighbours said that Rhys was a friendly, popular boy, and mad about football.

Rhys, who played for The Fir Tree Boys football club, was on his way home from football practice
with two friends. As he was crossing the Fir Tree pub car park, on Fir Tree Drive South in the
Croxteth Park estate, Liverpool, a hooded youth riding a silver mountain bike approached. He then
held out a handgun at arm's length firing three shots. It was originally believed that one of the
shots hit Rhys in the neck.

However, during the trial the pathologist revealed the bullet had entered his back "slightly above
the left shoulder blade" and that it had then "exited from the front right side of his neck". The
shooting occurred in daylight at 7.30 pm BST.

Rhys's mother rushed to the scene when she heard what had happened.By the time his mother had
reached him, Rhys was unconscious. Paramedics tried for one and a half hours to resuscitate him, but
he was pronounced dead some time later in Liverpool's Alder Hey Children's Hospital.

rhys although i didn't know you i cry everytime your name is mentioned. I live a stone's throw from where your young life was so tragically taken and i have 2 little boys and cannot bare to let them out of my sight. Justice will prevail, the scum bag who did this will have his day every dog does.

Our son trains on the same field in Croxteth and the feeling of sadness and loss that you must feel is unthinkable.
I hope you can take some solice in the fact that young Rhys has touched so many hearts and people everywhere will never forget his lovely young face.

If there is a GOD, let's hope and pray Rhys has not died in vain.Bring back respect,discipline,police power,National Service and punishments as befit the crime.My thoughts are with his Mum,Dad and brother for the terrible days to come.Whoever knows the culprit,BUBBLE them, before someone else goes back to kill the person that the bullet was intended for in the first place.
