the Norris Green housing estate, and was due to start secondary school at Fazakerley High School in
September 2007.

Rhys, who played for The Fir Tree Boys football club, was on his way home from football practice
with two friends. As he was crossing the Fir Tree pub car park, on Fir Tree Drive South in the
Croxteth Park estate, Liverpool, a hooded youth riding a silver mountain bike approached. He then
held out a handgun at arm's length firing three shots. It was originally believed that one of the
shots hit Rhys in the neck.

However, during the trial the pathologist revealed the bullet had entered his back "slightly above
the left shoulder blade" and that it had then "exited from the front right side of his neck". The
shooting occurred in daylight at 7.30 pm BST.

Time to change
The death of a child is never easy but for a child to do needlessly is the greatest tragedy at all. To the parents and family of Rhys, the courage and strength you have shown the world is an example to us all. I hope you find peace in your sorrow and comfort in the fact that people all over the UK and further afield are thinking of you in their hearts and prayers and may Rhys' memory live on in those who knew and loved him. God bless you all.
RIP RHYS

Deepest Sympathy to all Rhys,s family and friends
'Another young life taken by heartless thugs '
My deepest sympathy to the family of Rhys, such a loss for you all. For this to happen to an 11 year old child is wrong. Going by what has been said about Rhys and his love of football I am sure he is up in heaven playing his beloved game in his beloved team colours.
My thoughts are with you all and with Rhys
Goodnight little one x
WHY?
at least he can escape this torturous world now. surely there cant be a god when this is happening?
Such a tragedy!
My thoughts, and the thoughts of my family are with you at this very difficult and sad time. Rhys, may you rest in peace. You did not deserve to die so young. I hope the evil person who did this is caught and justice is done for the sake of Rhys and his family and friends.
RIP
Dear Mr & Mrs Jones and Owen
For the last 3 years my son has been at John Moores Uni. During that time my husband and I have travelled the route to Liverpool so many times. Each time has been a joy, the city is lovely and, above all, the people friendly and welcoming. It is with this in mind that I find it particularly hard to understand what is happening with the 'gang culture' in quite a few areas these days. These youths are losing out on how youth should be and now they have robbed you of something so precious and irreplaceable. I stood and applauded at the start of Saturday's game with you and have shed tears for you, I can only hope someone sees sense and reports the person/s responsible though I know this will not ease you burden. Please stay strong in the knowledge that there are people all over the country whose thoughts are with you, no parent/family deserves to lose a precious one in this way. God bless!
RHYS-JONES
