The murder of Rhys Milford Jones who was Born 27th September 1995, occurred on 22 August 2007 in
Liverpool, England, when he was shot, believed at the time to be in his neck.

Rhys was the son of Stephen and Melanie Jones and younger Brother of Owen, who was born in 1990.

Rhys, who would have turned 12 a month after his death, had just left Broad Square Primary School on
the Norris Green housing estate, and was due to start secondary school at Fazakerley High School in
September 2007.

Rhys Jones was known to be a boy who was eager to learn everything and anything.
His headteacher and neighbours said that Rhys was a friendly, popular boy, and mad about football.

Rhys, who played for The Fir Tree Boys football club, was on his way home from football practice
with two friends. As he was crossing the Fir Tree pub car park, on Fir Tree Drive South in the
Croxteth Park estate, Liverpool, a hooded youth riding a silver mountain bike approached. He then
held out a handgun at arm's length firing three shots. It was originally believed that one of the
shots hit Rhys in the neck.

However, during the trial the pathologist revealed the bullet had entered his back "slightly above
the left shoulder blade" and that it had then "exited from the front right side of his neck". The
shooting occurred in daylight at 7.30 pm BST.

Rhys's mother rushed to the scene when she heard what had happened.By the time his mother had
reached him, Rhys was unconscious. Paramedics tried for one and a half hours to resuscitate him, but
he was pronounced dead some time later in Liverpool's Alder Hey Children's Hospital.

Lost so young
Why oh why is this happening to innocent young children. I have a 11 year old who like Rhys plays football and who is starting senior school next week, I could not imagine the pain and heartache his mum, dad and brother are going through at this terrible time. I have tears in my eyes everytime I see his gorgeous face on the telly or in the papers. A young life so cruelly taken away this must stop now as its should not have started. God bless lil boy. xxxx
I have been so deeply affected by Rhys Jones murder....it is so very sad....I have two sons..... both grown up now and one of them a serving soldier.....I cannot begin to understand how his family are feeling and coping. I went to work on Friday with tears rolling down my cheeks as I had watched the news with his parent on .....I dont know this little lad or his family but you can identify with the sadness the senselessness of his murder and the sheer frustration it happens...kids killing kids.....its got to stop. God bless Rhys..and may God give your family the strength to find some solace and peace soon....

My deepest Dympathy to the family of Rhys, my thoughts are with you during this sad time.
It awful to think that in this day and age that no where is safe anymore, when i think about Rhys it makes me so sad.
Now you are an angel in heaven, rest in peace.
i have no relation to rhys or his family, but i can't even bring myself to read it as it upsets me so much. I caught my mum crying about it as i also have an 11 year old brother who is just about to start school and does football. I think it's disgusting how people can just go out and kill someone. Even if things are so bad, there is never a reason to kill someone. NEVER. Me and my family are so sorry for your loss. May Justice be done.

I didn't know Rhys but the brutality and senselessness of his death has affected a lot of people. I only hope that in time some good will come out of this awful tragedy and guns and gangs will be eliminated from our streets. My heartfealt sorrow goes out to his family and friends. So sorry and saddened at the loss of your young child.
Every time i see reports of rhys it chokes me up.

An innocent child has wrongly been taken by crime that needs to be dealt with accordingly. Heartbreaking news even for people such as myself that did not know Rhys. My deepest prays of strength goes to Rhys's Mum , Dad and brother Owen.
